Hey man Try the 3rd stroke mark king thang...
I try to explain...
Take say the E string pop down with yr thumb then pull your thumb back up and strike with your middle finger leaving the index finger to tackle other strings, you index finger should be able to start the same sounding presses on say the A string.
It’s a total different teq if you want to use the G string... You have to pluck the G with your index finger then pop it with your thumb then pluck it agen. Although I have been doing the same as with the E because I prefer how it sounds!
I would be happy to show you man (don’t think for one minute I have totally mastered this though)

De La, re: you're slap bass solo mp3...
Just out of interst, what are the techniques you're using at 0:23, 01:08 and 01:18?
Some of the advanced stuff I use is as follows:
open hammer pluck open hammer pluck slap hammer on and slap left hand slap three finger slap: middle-index-thumb (usually followed by hammer on) four finger slap: ring-middle-index-thumb
..and I'm working on double thumbing, but not enough to get it smooth yet. I can use i t for like a one of accent, but that's about it.

I don't really like slap bass... i prefer the Marcus Miller style of using the technique to play melodic lines...how ever cheesy it is!! I hate the way some bass players play really quick heavy slap bass that just sounds like a load of thumping! Just sounds like a drum, don't like it!! It is a difficult technique to master which is why bass players play it so much to show that they can do it... I prefer to funk out with good finger style lines!

"Just out of interst, what are the techniques you're using at 0:23, 01:08 and 01:18?"
Hey man! That technique i was using is just the most basic slap (thumb/index/thumb/thumb/index) I wouldnt recomend any1 playing that fast to use that tecnique though as it is very tiring!
And in reply to TheBassPlayer: There are many different slap styles and when all executed well sound great also slap is a very very good way of warming up b4 a gig, it gets your hand/arm/ and fingers all ready for sum hard core playing- I love any1 who can play slap styles and I could sit and watch it all day and I think you will find- if sum1 can play slap they can tackle complex none slap finger playing too ‘as that’s the fist stuff you learn as a bass player’ (If you don’t know the basics then your not gona get very far)
But equally I love to play melodic stuff and simple walking stuff (as i am a funk player)
Slap is not important no!!! but i wouldnt be the creative player i am 2day without it!! and i must add that it is a very good way to understand and be at one with your drumer! (as the thumb strikes can interact with the bass drum and so on...)
As a player that wants to push my self so far i am willing to learn and master any tecniques laid b4 me be it slap or finger styles........
feel free to disagree with my talking shit lol...
Luv ya all x [glow=red,2,300]De-la[/glow]

how do you get faster? Practice, Practice and practice i guess I've been going through The Slap Bass DVD by Ed Friedland recently. I've already become a quite a bit faster but it takes a lot of work and effort i guess.
