Hiya!, Thought I'd post a list of bass books and videos which I've found quite useful (you may have seen this list on another website but.....why not? ): General: The Bass Player Book (Karl Coryat) - Good all round bass tuition book, which gives you a start on stuff like theory & different styles & techniques (Rock, Funk, Blues, Jazz, Latin). Also covers a wide range of topics from how to buy a bass/amp, gigging & recording, as well as some interviews with a lot of famous bassists. Bass Playing Techniques - The Complete Guide (Alexis Sklarevski) - Really good technique book covering stuff like fingerstyle, slap, playing in different styles and so on. Slap & Pop: Funk Bass (Jon Liebman) - Very good book on the slap thing. Takes you all the way from basics through to soloing. Jazz: Building Walking Bass Lines (Ed Friedland) - Very good primer for building those jazz lines! Reading: Music Reading for Bass - The Complete Guide - Very good book for reading bass clef. Finally - the best two bass videos (IMHO) ever: Modern Electric Bass (Jaco Pastorius) - Really good video of the "bassists bassist". Even though Jaco was in decline at the time this was made, he was still better than most. Covers loads of stuff like arpeggios, scales, harmonics and picking. Great jam at the end with John Scofield (Gtr) and Kenwood Dennard (Drums). The Slap Bass Program (Alexis Sklarevski) - THE slap video (period!). Takes you all the way from basics to more advanced techniques. Cheers, Louis.
