This is only a temporary fix Bass players used to do it in the 80's... Set a pan to boil and drop the strings in for up to 5 min's you will see all the oil and dirt float to the top!!! Or stop being tight and buy some ha!ha!

But a faster way. washing up powder like surf this whay u dont even need 2 take the strings off the bass. Just put bin bags inbetween your strings of your bass and the fretbourd and picups this will look very strange. put some washing up powder on the strings and rubover with a wet cloth this cleans the strings dry the strings off and pull the binbags off . blow of the washing powder thats left and claen as a wistle faster 2!!!! try it!!!
