I don’t suppose anyone knows how to prolong the life span of bass strings?? Fast Fret is no good for bass strings I find it kills them quicker-any suggestions? Ryan

If you boil the strings it gives them that new sound again. Just leave them in a pot of boiling water for about 5-10 minutes then dry them out on a radiator overnight. restring the next day and the strings will sound good as new (due to then lack of sweat, oil, skin, skank on the strings). however, this does weaken the strings slightly. it is not advised to perform this act more than twice on the same strings as they will eventually snap. i only do it once then use them as spares.

Thanks, I find that if i whipe the strings at gigs/rehersals/sessians with a rag b4 and after i play that helps keep them bright ;D
And what i said about the fast frett... I was using to much i just use a small amount now so its all good!

Put a drop of vinegar in the water as well - helps a bit, but like you say, doesn't do a lot for the long term health of the strings. I think I've finally reached the point where I need to buy new strings for both my basses, however I don't think I've snapped one for a bout ten years now - luck perhaps, or quality of strings? I'm using Elites.

i dont normally change my strings as regulary as some people. I find it best to have strings that have had a bit of use (not too much though) i think perfectly new strings dont feel as right, but thats just me being a tightarse i guess lol
