Here's the place for discussing your fave basslines from the world of rock.
To start off, Iron Maiden's Phantom Of The Opera.
I fell in love with this song long before I ever picked up an instrument and when I joined Alchemy in '93 I realised I had joined a band in which we could perform it - and how!
We only had one guitarist, but we also had a violin player who played the second line. One of my favourite moments playing this was when we supported Paul D'ianno's Killers in Cardiff and blew them offstage with our version!
I've always admired Steve Harris' songwriting, but this one has to be his crowning glory.

I really dig Funkadelics "Who says a Funk Band can't play Rock Music", I think its a Funk band making an intellectual Rock tune with a rock vibe......hmmmm! I've never heard of a band doing it the otherway round.....hmmmm! I can dig U2 bass lines....Simple but perfect! ;D

Steve Harris is a strange one - If you watch close, he's got a terrible right hand technique, but the end result is some stunning playing.

I was really impressed on how much Steve harris admired Jaco. Did Steve ever do any other work other than Maiden?. I too Mr Torino, have to admit that before being a born again Funkateer saw Maiden at 1988 Monsters of Rock and again in 1990 at the NEC with Anthrax....that was way before i started playing Bass. Oh and on the Rock front i stand by U2 comment & also dig other simple bass work like the The Police etc...although Sting has done some complex bass stuff too...but at the other end i can dig Stu Hamm & Billy Mr Big whats his name and also very very very much Tony Levin & King Crimson. Not sure if you'd class Claypool as rock but i'm really into his stuff at the mo...particularly the stuff he's doing with ex P Funk member Bernie Worrell. Also John Entwhistle Is a god too!

You been following me around? I was at Donington and the NEC! I managed to get backstage after the NEC gig (No Prayer For The Dying tour) and met them all.
Billy Sheehan is one of my favourite players, but top of my list is John Deacon of Queen. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to see whether he will play on the tour this Spring.

What tours that, Queen? I went to the Freddie Mercury Tribute gig with a few fellow Bridgnorth friends and our banner "Chick feed babe" is shown in the video. Also Leyton ex booyaka mate & Shebangg member now won a Queen mastermind at a Queen convention...been to two of them also. I love John Deacons period after spending time with the Chic legend Bernard Edwards " Hot Space" etc...He got funked up for a while and sported one cool afro. Yes bit of a legend our John....he drove a battered old Volvo for years....Rock & Roll!

Hadn't you heard? Queen are touring in the Spring with Paul Rodgers singing. A lot of people are getting shirty at someone else fronting Queen, but I really don't see it this way. I see it as a new band who are going to perfom music from 2 great histories.
They've only confirmed a couple of European dates and one British so far, the British one being the Brixton Academy, but only for fan club members. Only £ 60 per ticket!
