Hello fellow rockmeisters.
This forum's for (as it says above) all things rock. We don't want to hear about funk or soul or jazz in here.
Let's hear some views.

Is post-rock acceptable? Its not quite classic rock but it aint funk soul or jazz!?
I think people should listen to more post-rock, Mogwai for example have written some of my favourite basslines, the song "Tracy" has a great riff so does "summer" the song is all about the bass! Another of my favourite songs by them is "Christmas Steps" it starts with guitar then it builds up abit then dies down for almost nothing, then the bass comes in with an almighty riff!! Scares the shit out of me everytime I listen to it! If you have time download those songs and tell me what you think.
I think its more difficult to write a good bassline in rock, funk its quite easy half the time you don't even have to play any notes just make the percussive slap sound!

Anything's good as long as it rocks!
I'm just downloading Christmas Steps and I'll post my opinions later...

Wow, what an awesome piece of music. That bit where the bass kicks in halfway through is great - at first it sounds as if it's been mixed way too high, but as everything else builds up it brings it nicely into balance. And what a great tone as well, clean but not too clean.

The bassist has a great tone, he uses a Fender Jazz, they sound great when really pushed!! Saw this song live blew me away, no it really did throw me backwards when the bass kicked in!! I like the way the bass speeds up and gets louder.

I really dig prog rock such as Gong and ozrics etc...I'm going to see the Ozrics this weekend actually in Exeter. I think they're on in Dudley too. Would you class the Mahavishno Orchestra as rock...alot of people call it Fusion or Jazz Rock...What ever it is it does have a rock element and is wicked.

I've got to say that all of the above bands are a must for any bass player/musician to listen to. Many a night (almost every weekend) is spent with Jim Streets (GT Guitarists) listening to music of that ilk
