I can't understand it as I love the sound that other players have got from their gear. These days I use a POD Pro as a pre amp into my Hartke 2000. I tend to prefer a dirty, grinding sound so I've set up an Ampeg SVT patch for most of my work and have a reallly low action (ask Ryan!). I have a selection of cabs - 2 are 1x15s by a company called KMD - one with a Tracey driver (!) and one with a Celestion. I don't know what became of the company, but my mate had a prototype power amp of theirs for his guitar and when it started to die, the only amp we could find which came close was a Boogie Tri-Axis. I've also got a Marshall 4x12 basketweave with greenbacks (sweeeeet) and am now also borrowing Mike's Warwick cab (small and powerful). Just recently we've bought a new PA and I'm starting to use that instead of my own cabs as the bottom end it produces is awesome.

I use an Ashdown MAG C210T 300, such a great fat sound! I couldn't imagine buying anything but Ashdown! Great partnership with my fretless!! and the subharmonics are great too, and the VU meter looks fantastic!!

I managed to get hold of an Ashdown watch last year, based on the VU. Nice watch but bloody huge on my wrist!

Right, I have just reached a milestone in my playing - after 18 months I have finally stumped up enough cash to by a proper amp! I now have an ancient SoundCity SC50 combo - its a bit rattly at times but sounds great and can be incredibly loud when provoked!

Of course, you'd BUY the amp BEFORE you try; rather than going to a local music shop, abusing their time, gear, space and electricity then buying it off the net.

I would suggest talking your quote to a music shop with the amp and saying match it!! I did that with my ashdown, found it for £399 on the net the shop wanted £499 i think, so they matched it for me!! there was no way i'd spend that much money without trying it first even if i was waisting there time!!
