Hi. I use an Ibanez Phathead and it's the most versatile bass distortion I've ever found - it'll do anything from adding a slight growl to out and out death metal. A lot of people swear by the Boss Bass Overdrive but I found it a but dull. I also have a Boss DS1 distortion ( my first ever pedal) but it does cut the low end a bit as it's really a guitar pedal. The Danelectro stuff is also meant to be pretty good ( the full size ones rather than the mini-pedals) but I haven't tried them.
