EXP160
First impression are, the tone is nice and bright, the strings have quite a smooth feel to them. With use, they seem to stay brighter longer, and are quite alot smoother to play than my usual strings (Rotosounds), although I did find the gauge a bit to thick, they are 50's. Great for rock/metal, used either pick style or fingers. But with them being quite thick, make slap a bit tiring. I now have gone back to my usual Rotosounds, gauge 40's (great for slapping).
I would like to thank Ryan and Bass and Beyond for the chance to try these strings.
(any Rotosounds need testing give me a shout!!!!)

EXP170 45/65/80/100
Much like the Elixir the coating allows for a longer lifespan but at half the price. As the Gauge is a bit heavier than my usual (Extra Slinky 40-95) I have these strung to my spare bass.
Overall you have to be impressed with these strings on there lifespan and warm sound and if you buy regularly you can collect players points for things such as hats/stools/t-shirts….

Put the strings on my Jazz Bass before a gig. They totaly transformed bass for the worse. Not due to the sound particulary but the heavy gauge. I'm used to using 40 - 100 Elites which I haven't found strings that any better. The guage of these was 45 - 105 (i think) I can't really write an objective review because I had to take them off as soon as I put them on (Like Ryan I'm using them as spares). The sound was very heavy/rock like but this is probably due to the heavier gauge. On the subject of string reviews I have tried most makes. I used to use Rotosounds but I had too many duff strings from new. They don't last very long, maybe 2 weeks before they are completely knackered but they don't sound very good from the word go compared to Elites that I use now. They lack brightness - I think this is due to the strings being Nickel.
I find the Elites to be the best out of all the strings I have tried throughout my time as a bass player. They are made out of Stainless Steel which gives them a very bright and fat tone. They last absolutely ages as well. 3 Months at least if you wipe them down after gigs etc. They are certainly worth the extra cost. You can get them from stringbusters.com cheap.

EXP170 (Gauge I usually use)
The strings are well balanced between a warm and a bright sound, no metallic clankyness like a new stainless steel string (which is good for me).
I love the smooth feel of these strings on the neck but they occasionally feel "sticky" under the fingers of my picking hand (this has never happened with non coated strings).
Hopefully the coating on these strings will last longer than the coating on the phosphor bronze acoustic guitar strings (they sound fantastic on my ovation but they don't last any longer than non coated acoustic guitar strings). I've had these on four weeks and they still sound good. I usually change my strings every three months or so so I'll have to see how long they last.
I was impressed by the sound of these things recorded DI into the desk - warm with a nice bite.
Overall I love the sound and like the smooth feel of these strings - if they last longer than my EBs (£15ish) I might just be tempted to pay £30ish for another set.
Sound: ***** Feel: **** Life: I'll let you know Value: £30 is more than I would normally pay for strings but if they keep this sound up they'll be worth it.

Hey, I though it was really about time i reviewed these babies. We'll I had a set of the EXP 170's in 45 gauge, which is my usual choice. Eager to whack them on i had strung my jazz copy up, sorted out my action got intonated and started to play, I was immediately dissapointed, the tone did nothing for me, they were way too metallic and added too much treble for my liking. When it came to playing walking basslines and very jazzy parts, the open strings sounded exposed and obvious from the fretted notes. More suited to slap in the early stages of their life they still werent my my cup of tea. As the weeks progressed the strings lost the 'new' tone to them and began to feel more right, this probably due to the nickel coating on the strings. At this point (probably a month after stringing it) there was a nice balance and the tone was suited for darker jazz, where most of my playing is focused. The slap aspect of the string wasnt as bright as most people would like but it held up well.
Comparing these to my usual choice on hybrid slinky ernie balls. they come out very equal, with the ernies suiting slap and tap alot more, but the exp's were superior for jazzy run's. overall i would use these again but for the price i wouldnt justify not spendin £10 more to try a set of elixirs.
