Have seen & heard Will Lee (bassist for "Late Night with David Letterman" TV show) use 'em. Great sounding custom made bass, but a tad expensive at about £3,000+ !! (Don't know if the Metro models made in Japan will be cheaper?). It's mainly one of the choice instruments for the New York session guys.
GB Guitars & Overwater make good custom made Jazzes (have got an Overwater 5 string Jazz myself & wouldn't swap it for anything). Still not cheap, but might be worth looking into if you're after a good quality UK made Jazz bass.

You can get Sadowsky preamps, either pedal preamp or onboard preamp, the pedal i believe is in the region of £300-£400 but the onboard is cheaper!! Marcus Miller has a Sadowsky preamp installed on his Fender Jazz!!

Hiya, In case anyone's interested, there's a review of the Sadowsky Metro 5 string in this month's Bass Guitar mag. The January issue of Bass Player reviewed some of these too. Selling in the UK for nearly £1,600 which is a bargain price for a Sadowsky!!
