I've just set up a thread elsewhere about this.
Listen to as much Billy Sheehan as you can (and Eddie Van Halen, et al). I'll try and dig out an old video I've got with a couple of lessons by Billy if you want.

tell it like it is brother!!! man in my band i got a guitarist who used to play bass, he is damn good but you got to let him and the other geet bloke thing that they are the main body, not the bassist and drummer, we dont do anything do we!!!!
oh well............................i need a job, im jsut sitting here all alone and there is like nothing/no-one to do.
HELP!!!

Also, be aware of guitarists who think they can play bass. I've only ever met a couple who actually can - they think it's easy due to 2 less strings and only one note at a time!
DO NOT, under any circumstances, let a guitarist near a bass.
