Hi Alun, Really nice composition (nice clean technique too) - sounds very "Jaco-esque" if I may say so.... Cheers, Louis.

Hello again. Just to let you know I've just uploaded a new MP3 at www.alunvaughan.com/sounds.htm . It's an instrumental funk tune featuring the little Ashbory bass reviewed elsewhere on this site. The solo is a Cort Curbow six string and everything that isn't a bass was created with virtual instruments on my laptop. Please have listen and let me know what you think. If you want to sign the guestbook, that'd be cool too www.alunvaughan.com/Weasels.mp3Cheers, Alun

Nice work Alun I dig the track with the harmonics, really nice and clean, Nicely played Gotta say that the slap track suffers from poor time tho, although the technique and the tone especially is real nice. I have the same problem when I play advanced slap techniques.. I just dont pratice them enough! The walk + bass solo section on Weasels however is great! Those ashbory basses are mad arent they.. swear that's a better upright soudns than an upright It's damned tough playing solo bass parts isnt it, wen you listen back there's always something that glares out at you! Grr!

Thanks Howard. I must admit that the slap thing was done a while ago and does sound pretty naff now. I've just done some other stuff for www.chopsfromhell.com (cheesy name but good site) and may replace the slap one with that - at least the timing is better The Ashbory never ceases to amaze me. Looks silly but sounds so incredible ;D And yes, solo bass is a swine to record ( for me anyway!) Cheers, Alun

Heh, the Ashbory... the only time I played one was at the basscentre when it was in Wapping a few years ago... this huge guy came up to me (like way over 6ft and probably 16 stone or so!) and told me how to get a really cool upright sound out of the thing... i just couldnt imagine this guy playing one, it would've fitted in his palm!! I was in the studio recording yesterday, so you some of my more recent non-rock playing should be online somewhere soon?
