Compression (in simple terms) is actually a kind of volume limiter really - More specifically, a compressor 'turns down' the audio when the level exceeds a threshold set by the user.
So in effect it makes your bass tone sound more rounded - less peaks in volume.

i find its really good, if you need that extra push in a song. setting it so when its on the volume is higher than normal and youve got a two level volume controll
